On July 23rd and 24th, 2026, I played the main stage at Alta Notte Gaïa, in Nebbiu, Corsica. It's probably the most exciting date of my season, and that comes down first to the festival's concept.
What Alta Notte actually is
Alta Notte is a Corsica festival with a secret location. You know when it happens (the dates have been public for months), you know roughly where, but the rule is that the exact meeting point gets revealed 5 hours before kickoff, and not a minute earlier.
So you prep your set without knowing the exact venue, which means you prep several openings. You arrive in the morning without knowing whether you'll play on a beach, in the maquis, near a chapel or on a dry-stone terrace. The gear rolls in by convoy, soundcheck happens in commando mode, and the crew briefs you on site in the hour before.
It's rare in 2026 to find a festival that takes on this much risk: most line-ups come out 3 months ahead with the site map as a PDF. Here, it gave the stage an energy I don't find anywhere else.
Gaïa, goddess of the Earth
Each Alta Notte edition takes the name of a Greek deity tied to the element of the location. For Nebbiu, it's Gaïa, goddess of the Earth. The Nebbiu micro-region is that north-east corner of Corsica between Saint-Florent and Cap Corse, with rolling hills, olive groves and Romanesque chapels in the middle of nowhere. When you read "goddess of the Earth" while looking at a map of Nebbiu, it makes sense straight away.
That mythological identity carried into the programming, more organic on the first night, tenser on the second. The kind of night where the location does half the work, like in my Cattenom wrap-up.
The blend of electronic music and live instrumentation
What made me say yes to Alta Notte (beyond Corsica, the starry nights and the concept) was the live approach. The sets fit into a framework that mixes DJs with instrumentalists on sax, electric guitar and piano. They weren't there for folklore: they really played off the rhythm.
I'd already played with a saxophonist at Cattenom 2025, and I know how much that transforms a set. When you build your progression knowing that at 1:30 AM an acoustic melody is going to land on your afro-house beat, you ramp up differently: you leave gaps, you prep instrumental passages and you listen to what's happening next to you.
For Gaïa, I came in with a few in-house afro-house edits around 120 BPM, with breaks where the sax could come in. It was a gamble, in the spirit of the festival, and on the ground that's what landed best.
Why I went to play this thing this summer
I play in Paris all year round (resident at O'Sullivans Champs-Élysées, regular dates in clubs and bars on the circuit). Stepping outside that circuit for a festival like Alta Notte matters to me, for two reasons.
First, it forces you out of your habits. A Corsican crowd in peak summer at 2 AM, with the Mediterranean 200 metres away, gets played differently from a Saturday night on the Champs-Élysées: the selection is built differently, transitions hold longer and silence becomes a tool.
Second, it's a playground for tracks I don't bring out in a Paris club, more organic, longer, with more BPM variation. Tracks like that need an attentive crowd, and Alta Notte is where I got to test them.
